How do I connect computers to my BigPond Cable Home Network Gateway?
The install CD in your Self Install Kit has been designed to help you configure your Home Network Gateway and your computer automatically.
You can also use your CD when you want to install Wi-Fi adapters and add computers to your home network.
However, this only works with the adapters that BigPond normally supplies with our Home Network Gateway Self Install Kits – the Netgear WN111, WG111 or WG511. (The make and model number will be printed on the adapter.)
If you're using Intel Centrino or Mac AirPort, the CD will also help configure and add the computer to your Home Network. For any other kind of Wi-Fi adapter, check the manufacturer's instructions, website or FAQs for setup help.
Using the install CD
Step 1: Load and run your BigPond self-install CD on the new computer.
Step 2: When provided with the option, choose to add a new computer to your network (add an additional home network adaptor). Follow the instructions and the CD will configure and add the new computer to your Home Network.
For Windows customers:
You can also do this by configuring your computer. Click on 'Wireless Network Connection' in the taskbar:
Select the Wi-Fi network name or SSID (service set identification number) for your gateway, you will then be prompted for your Wi-Fi / WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security key:
Type in your WPA key and click Connect.
To use WPA2 on Windows XP SP2 you first have to install Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2)/Wireless Provisioning Services Information Element (WPS IE) update. You can find this update on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917021.
For Mac customers:
Click on the 'AirPort' icon on you Mac and you will get a drop down list:
Select the Wi-Fi network name or SSID (service set identification number) that matches your device:
Where prompted at Password: enter your WPA key.
Click 'OK' to complete.
